CLEVELAND — Cavs’ guard combo of Kyrie Irving and rookie Dion Waiters combined for 46 points on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough against the Atlanta Hawks on “Wild Thing” Wig Night.
The Hawks posted a 103-94 victory as Jeff Teague led the way with 27 points. The Cavaliers were once again without the services of “Wild Thing” Anderson Varejao, who missed his fifth straight game with a knee bruise. Indications are that the Brazilian may miss the next week as well.
The Cavaliers led by five, 88-83, in the fourth quarter thanks to an Irving three pointer, but the Hawks persisted.
A Lou Williams three pointer broke an 88 all tie, and Irving’s basket with 2:53 left gave the Cavs a 95-94 lead.
However, the lid went over the basket and Cleveland did not score the rest of the way.
Irving led the Cavaliers with 28 points.
The Wine and Gold will be in Brooklyn on Saturday night to take on the Nets.
