CLEVELAND– The Indians threatened a franchise record for homers in a game on Tuesday night when they pounded out 7 long flies in a 14-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Leading the way was Ryan Raburn, who had his second straight two-homer game.  The last time an Indian hit two homers in back to back games was Travis Hafner in the 2004 season.

When Raburn hit the first of his two homers, it was already the 5th inning and baseballs were flying out of Progressive Field with much regularity.

The Indians got to 201-game winner Roy Halladay early in setting the tone.

Carlos Santana, who came into the game leading the league with a .386 batting average, ripped a two-run homer for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Mark Reynolds smacked another two-run blast for the 4-0 lead.

Delmon Young homered for the Phillies to make it 4-1 in the second, but two innings later Lonnie Chisenhall knocked a two-run shot and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in two runs with a single to make it 8-1.

In the fifth, Raburn hit homer number one of the night, also a two-run homer and Michael Brantley matched him with a two-run shot and a 12-1 lead.

While Chase Utley hit a solo blast in the 6th for the Phillies, Raburn hit a solo homer in the 7th, followed by Drew Stubbs’ solo homer.

It is believed that on two occasions, the Indians have hit 8 homers in a game; so the Indians flirted with the mark but could not equal it.

On the night, Cleveland banged out 17 hits in supporting starter Zach McAllister. He went 7 innings and scattered 5 hits and allowed two runs. He struck out four.

The Indians and Phillies play the second of their 2-game set on Wednesday night.
